Diamond Fibres - the Process

After sorting, grading, scouring (3 or 4 washes) and picking, the wool is carded (disentangled) so that each fibre can move freely.

Spinning preparation consists of up to twenty distinct operations, converting the fibre into a roving (a thin, even, loosely twisted rope of fibre) which is then reduced by drawing to produce a single strand yarn. This yarn is subsequently folded (plyed) with another or more, to make 2-fold, 3-fold, etc., yarns.

Finishing involves hanking, washing, drying and coning.

Processing time varies from one week to six months or more, dependent on the simplicity or complexity of the customer's requirements, our workload at the time, and other distractions....
